CamWiz Webcam Recorder App Reviews
I was very excited after opening the app and overcoming the initial shock of the (fairly unintuitive) UI. The problem is that besides its visual elegance and clean look, the app only records in very low resolutions, and I wanted to capture at least at 720p. Here’s hoping for an update to address that.
i really like taking video without any sound, especially when it is a long video the script of which you worked on for a long time only to find that it is now a silent film!
How did this become an app? Very strange user interface and no (clear) way to change the webcam input. Read this review… Do not waste your hard drive space and time on this.
Won’t even startup
I must have missed something but it won’t even open.
Wow…I’ve seen some pretty terrible GUI’s in my day but this one takes the cake. Reminds me of WinAmp back in Windows XP… What’s with this terrible GUI!? Just use the stock OS X framework jeeze…Also no way to set the cache temp directory manually (which is what I need since my main drive is full). This app is going straight to the trash.
Its very limited. You cant choose the format it records in. It wont record at the maximum resolution of my webcam (1080p, wont do 720p either). The interface is dreadful. The preview window is too small. You get what you pay for.
Dont download it! It does nothing! The controls are pretty much useless and when it says night vision, all it does is tints the video green. Dont get it. It one of the worst apps ever!
nice
this thang got swag. the night vision rly works. and the videos came out great.
I tried everything. It comes out great, but I cant do A screen video while having my webcam recording of me in my room or anywhere in fact. The CamWiz tab is also always in the way of a screen recording and I cant get rid of that without stopping the video. Other than that, it is a good quality, but its rather confusing to the new-bees just learning web cam recording (Like me for that matter)
I open the app, it automatically turns on my webcam. The app hides in the menu bar as an icon which is fine. Then if I click on any other open app and then click on the icon to open it it doesnt actually bring it up. NO matter how many time I click on it in a row it just wont open. Double clicking it doesnt open it either. The only way to open it is to hit command and then click on it. But then it takes up a lot of unnecessary room with a large rectangle around the webcam settings/viewer. Then you cant just click on any other app to bring that to focus since Camwiz stays in the foreground. You have to click the icon up top again to hide it. The toggles that hide sections of the app arent labeled so you have no idea what they do. The texture/background of the app makes the text hard to read. I would prefer a simple single color dark (or light) colored background with contrasting text. I do like the tuner features which allow you to adjust the saturation, brightness and contrast. I do not like the hidden way you have to view the recorded videos though. You click on the play (sideways triangle button) to see the videos and then you click on a video, and have several options to choose from, Info, Play, Export and Delete. I think it should automatically export them to your Movies folder in its own folder called CamWiz. But hey, I am just one person here. I hate it when apps import files (or keep files trapped) inside their own realm which then adds to storage use when you export them. Like with iPhoto and iMovie. It just doubles up the amount of storage that is used for no good reason. I say just make the apps have a list of some kind that indexes the files into the app so that it does the same exact thing as it already does yet does not double the amount of hard drive space you use! All in all this is a nifty and very useful app. I like how you can set the recording time to automatically stop recording at whatever time interval you want. I think the many options buttons are a bit much. I think it should be all in one place. I also believe that the bundled options you can buy are good but I probably wouldnt end up using any of them except the motion detection.
There are no robust camera controls in this program; or if they are there, they are not apparent. |This doesnt fulfill the niche of recording video on a MACBOOK PRO with an external webcam. iMovie cant do it, Adobe Premiere Pro wont do it for some reason, and this crap certainly doesnt do it well. The frame rate is low, probably about 10 frames per second on high quality. The save feature doesnt exactly save stuff in a good spot on my hard drive, it saves it in the app and forces me to use their "play" function which hijacks my desktop and is tough to close. All around poor user interface, lack of robust options, doesnt work as advertised. Good luck, taking my webcam back down to the legacy windows box to record my media. Crap.
Needs options (example: where to save the recorded data, what format, etc.) and needs to be minimizable. This app needs work, but has potential. In its current iteration? Not useable.
I was looking for an application to record my webcam for online seminars and tutorials. CamWiz will hook into your webcams of all shapes and sizes. Along with using your microphone for audio. However while it has all the bells and whistles it’s extremely laggy. The interface is tiny and stuttery. Then the recordings can have a squished look after they’re exported. In a pinch this can work for you. However if you need a long term webcam recorder get something like OBS for mac or ManyCam.
really?
the video files can’t even open…. debut was better than this, WOW! YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HARD IT WAS FOR ME TO SAY THAT!
DO NOT DOWNLOAD!

not easy to use, lack of control
